GREEN TRANSITION AND EU MARKET COMPLIANCE FOR SMEs DISCUSSED AT KUTSO

The “Green Transition and EU Market Compliance for SMEs: Carbon Footprint, CBAM and Green Finance” programme, hosted by the Kütahya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KUTSO), addressed businesses’ compliance with new environmental regulations and their competitiveness in international markets.

The programme, organised within the scope of the Türkiye-EU Business Dialogue II (TEBD II) project, opened with an address by Emin Yüce, Chairman of the KUTSO Sustainability Working Group and Chairman of the Member Relations Coordination Board. Following a presentation on TEBD II by KUTSO Academic Adviser Assoc. Prof. Dr Zeynep Hiçdurmaz, Hüseyin Ekrem Cünedioğlu, Director of the Development Programme at the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Türkiye (TEPAV), addressed carbon footprint, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and green finance.

In his opening address, Emin Yüce expressed his pleasure at KUTSO hosting the training programme organised within the scope of the TEBD II project, which is funded by the European Union and implemented in cooperation with the Directorate for EU Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) and Eurochambres.

Emphasising the importance of training on the green transition and compliance with the EU market for industrialists and exporters in Kütahya, Yüce stated that sustainability is no longer merely a matter of choice, but has become one of the fundamental requirements for production and for maintaining a presence in international markets.

Yüce noted that the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), introduced by the European Union in line with its European Green Deal objectives, together with carbon footprint standards, has initiated a new compliance process for businesses. He added that this process also presents new opportunities. He emphasised the importance of complying with environmental standards and making use of green finance opportunities in order for Kütahya’s industry to maintain and strengthen its position in the European market.

Yüce stated that the information shared during the training would provide SMEs with guidance on managing their carbon footprint and accessing green finance, adding that KUTSO would continue to provide training programmes to guide its members through the green transition process. He thanked the speakers, the institutions that contributed to the organisation of the programme and all participants.

Following the opening session, KUTSO Academic Adviser Assoc. Prof. Dr Zeynep Hiçdurmaz delivered a presentation on the Türkiye-EU Business Dialogue II (TEBD II) project.

Hüseyin Ekrem Cünedioğlu, Director of the Development Programme at TEPAV, discussed the green transition and EU market compliance process for SMEs, focusing on carbon footprint, CBAM and green finance. The presentation was followed by a question-and-answer session, during which participants’ questions were addressed.
